At Sequal we believe our local community is our responsibility.
We believe we have a role to play in serving our communities in ways that seek to grow and nurture our people. When we see a need in our community we try and fix it. We won’t sit and wait for the Government to fix it when we could do it ourselves. At Sequal our philosophy is about giving more than wood – we want to improve the lives of people in our community.
This belief is why Sequal has co-sponsored the Trinity Koha Dental Clinic. The dental clinic has provided free dental care to hundreds of people in Kawerau over the last two weeks.
The free dental clinic is the brainchild of YWAM Ships Aotearoa (YSA) in partnership with Trinity Lands. YSA has used the surgical assets on their medical aid ship which is currently unable to travel abroad due to COVID-19. Instead of having the ship and their medical equipment sit idle in the Port of Tauranga, they decided to instead deliver free dental services in the local Bay of Plenty community.
Sequal has backed their mission because we know there is a serious need for affordable dental care in the Kawerau community. We could see the free dental clinic would deliver real relief to those living with acute oral pain or infection, leaving them feeling more confident and able to thrive.
The clinic was an incredible success and the need for dental care within the community has taken us all by surprise, with people coming from all over the region to Kawerau for treatment. Initial reports are that the clinic treated over 260 patients for a range of dental needs over the two-week period.
It was remarkable how smoothly this programme came together. In the space of only three months the idea of the clinic transformed into on-the-ground delivery. It would not have been possible without the generous contribution of time and effort of a large number of local dentists and volunteers, as well as significant donations from various corporate and community organisations. We also want to honour Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora for their partnership which enabled us to deliver the clinic in Kawerau.
When you’re part of a community you’ve got to look out for it. Sequal will continue to back great community-focused projects that deliver real benefits to our people, because we believe it is our responsibility.
