Paddle as one… in a literal sense!

One of the five values that we set out to live by in our everyday lives at Sequal is ‘Paddle as One’.

As the Maori proverb states; He waka eke noa: We are all in the waka together. This means we must try to the best of our ability because others are relying on us to ‘turn up’.

Like all great teams, we know that it’s the people around us that allow us to achieve. At the same time, if we aren’t united and working towards the same goal, we will only be able to go around in circles.

This past weekend was no exception to living this value in a very real sense (and there thankfully wasn’t a lot of going round in circles!)… As a result of a gutsy team effort at the Kawerau King of the Mountain race a couple of weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to win a couple of team entries into the Seriously Social Rafting Competition on the Tarawera River – and the competitive nature of our team meant that we needed to enter more!

The team had an awesome day with the time trials in the morning and even moreso with the head to head races in the afternoon. It became pretty clear who was out to get who and one of our teams came out with a second place overall – nice work guys!

A big thanks must go to Rafting Adventure Rotorua for organizing such a cool event! It’s been added to our social calendar for 2018 when we’ll be back to have another crack at the title!
