Off-Highway Road Opening: Celebrating NZ’s strongest road

Today we gathered for the official opening of the Off-Highway Road in Kawerau; a celebration of the collaboration of a number of individuals and organisations over many years for a common purpose of improving economic outcomes for our region and for generations to come. Born out of a conversation 12 years ago, the completion of the Off-Highway road symbolises the power of community and collaboration and demonstrates what can be accomplished when local whānau, industry, local council, and central government unite towards a common goal.

The road represents a milestone in our journey. A journey that we’re super passionate about; creating opportunities for young people and ensuring that our kids are given access to the skill development they need to achieve their purpose. We’re grateful for all those who have partnered us on the journey. Special mention must go to the Putauaki Trust, Te Kori Ngaheu Trust, Manukorihi Development Trust, Te Tahuna Trust, and Wetini Whanau Trust, whose input has been instrumental in bringing this project to life.

We would also like to acknowledge the contribution of Kanoa, their patience and trust in delivering this project.  Finally, to Minister Shane Jones for his support of regional economic outcomes and taking the time to officially cut the ribbon on this project.

Here’s to many more projects like this one in the future to encourage our community to grow and thrive!
