1. Reduce Waste
One of the best ways to minimise costs is to take waste out of the supply chain. When it comes to lumber there is often a lot of waste as the standard sizes in the market can often be millimetres away from your target end size, even taking into account what you dress off.
However at Sequal we custom cut everything to order. In typical cases when a customer orders a custom size from us, on average this requires 10% less wood then the nearest standard size in the market.
It can save a lot of money.
2. Give every manufacturer the opportunity to access discounts
Because we choose to support even the small manufacturer we offer a type of discount structure that every manufacturer can access.
It is based around order consistency. If a customer gives us order consistency for three months in a quarter, that’s an order each month of a qtr, we provide a consistency discount. It doesn’t matter how big or small the customer is, with a 3 month commitment small manufacturers can access the same discount as the big guys. We believe this rewards the right things… Manufacturers want a lumber supplier they can rely on for consistent supply and we desire customers who order regularly.
We don’t want manufacturers ordering more than they need to in order to obtain a volume discount. This is not good for the manufacturer’s cash-flow and it adds instability to our production planning. That’s why this discount structure encourages a relationship where we work together as partners to build stable growing business.
