The NZ National Skateboarding Championships in Tauranga last weekend was an inspiring showcase of talent, determination, and grit. With competitors traveling from as far north as Whangarei and as far south as Dunedin, the event brought together the best of New Zealand’s skateboarding scene. Young athletes as young as 8 years old demonstrated remarkable skill and grit, pushing themselves to new heights.
What struck us was the resilience and strength of these young athletes. They’re not just fighting for a spot on the podium; they’re pushing boundaries physically and challenging norms. Skateboarding is still a relatively niche sport in New Zealand, and for women, it can be a steeper climb to success which is why we got alongside them. These young skaters are determined to make their mark. They’re not afraid to take risks, to fall, and to get back up again.
They’re true trailblazers in their own right and NZ Skateboarding do a fantastic job in laying the platform for them to express themselves!
We’re proud to be part of this journey, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these talented young skaters. Here’s to next year’s event!
