As proud kiwis and Sequalians, we believe that we have an obligation ingrained in us to serve our people, our communities, and our country. At the heart of who we are as a business are our biggest asset, our people – it’s them who go above and beyond and strive to be better than they were yesterday. We understand that although everyone has their own journey and a different story to tell, we all come together through a shared purpose; to challenge, transform and give more to the future through wood.
Peter Horcin, or ‘Pete’ as we all know him, has been on his Sequal journey for the past eight years. He came on-board in 2012 with a PhD in hand, speaking limited English and he is now our Head of Planning & Logistics.
Prior to Sequal, he was driving a fruit and vege truck around Tauranga after arriving in New Zealand from Slovakia. When Pete started at Sequal, he spent his days re-stacking part-packets in the yard for better container space utilisation until an opportunity came up to fill the role of Logistics Manager. At that stage, the mill’s output had doubled which meant a lot more packets to handle and packet builds to control but he was pretty passionate about logistics so thought he’d put his best foot forward and give it a shot – if you know logistics, you’ll know that this role wouldn’t have come without its challenges… but Pete managed to take it all in his stride!
Since then, Pete has continued to take on plenty more challenges including post-production when the kilns were installed and other responsibilities within the business and now finds himself heading up the Planning & Logistics team.
We asked Pete to take some time to reflect and give us some feedback on his time at Sequal and changes that he’s seen since joining us in 2012 and this Is what he said…
“Over the past 8 years, I’ve seen a lot of change at Sequal and this has provided opportunities not only for the business but also my own personal growth. I never would have thought that grabbing that one opportunity to stack boards in the mud and rain would be a significant step for my future. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.
I am proud to be part of the Sequal family and with a positive view to the future, I’m following my dreams and living my personal values, which are very much aligned with the company values. In doing this, we can all do our bit to give more to the future through wood.”
Good on ya Pete. You’ve come an incredibly long way over the past eight years and we are so grateful to have you as an integral part of our team!
