Our purpose ‘to challenge, transform and give more to the future through wood’ forms the heart of our obligation to give more. It is something we seek to live constantly – for our people, our customers and for the future.
For us however, it only becomes authentic if we are living by our core values and consistently filtering our actions to make sure they align with our give more beliefs.
One of these core values, and our big focus for this year, is to ‘be straight up’. We ran a team Startup Day, as we do every year, to share our focus and plans for 2019 but this year we thought it was important to discuss ways in which we can better work together to authenticate our give more beliefs and demonstrate our core values.
We together defined the ‘be straight up’ core value as; being honest, having courage to stand up for ourselves and for others, and having the ability to give and receive respectful, constructive feedback and ideas.
With that one down on the first day back, we’re working together throughout this first quarter to define what the other four core values mean to us. With these ideas, we’ll re-articulate the wording of our values so that they’re in the words of our people and work to find ways that we turn these values into living, breathing things.
Shout out to our team who contribute all the amazing ideas in these sessions!
We know that culture does not become real through words, it only becomes real through actions – so this is now the challenge for all of us. We need to take responsibility for our own actions, because it is only then, that culture authentically comes to life… to do the little things so that the big things become possible…
