Finding ways to give more in our community is something that gets us out of bed in the morning. We believe we have a role to play in serving our communities and doing our bit to help those making their mark in them. There’s so many incredible people out there helping out where they can with initiatives that they’re passionate about. The challenge for us becomes finding ways we can lend a hand.
The SPCA in Kawerau is a small centre run entirely by a group of committed volunteers. They provide an invaluable service to the people and animals of Kawerau and surrounding areas including a 24 hour emergency telephone cover and an animal ambulance for use in emergencies. In 2017, they received 537 sick, injured, abused or simply abandoned animals into their care. In addition to the centre, volunteers also run an SPCA Op shop in town which helps in raising funds for the work they do.
Last week a couple of our team mucked in and helped with ‘pup-proofing’ the quarantine kennels – not sure how much the pups will enjoy not being able to escape, but we can rest assured that they are safe and in good hands in their newly revamped kennels!
The SPCA do an amazing job in our community so it’s only fitting we tautoko them to acknowledge their contribution and those people who sacrifice their precious time and effort to make it possible!
