Our very first Give More Day!

We’re passionate about our communities and committed to giving more at Sequal – so it’s only fitting that this year, we’ve introduced ‘Give More’ Days aka community engagement days.

Last year we ran sessions with the team to generate feedback about what ‘give more’ meant to them. Top ranking on the list was respect, family/whanau and community. We then got them to think about what we could be doing as individuals and as a team to bring these to life – and that’s where Give More Days came in!

The idea of sharing our passion for the community and working together to contribute to a greater good is something that really gets us out of bed in the morning. So this year, we’re dedicating one day a quarter to doing so. We fill the spots of those who are helping in the community with management to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by our team on a daily basis – then we can be finding ways to improve, always!

Recently we held our first Give More Day – organising and delivering firewood to some of the local members of KADAP (Kawerau & Districts Aging in Place) in Kawerau – some of their members even volunteered their time (and muscles!) on the day!

KADAP are a local initiative that co-ordinate a group of volunteers to help members of the Kawerau community who wish to stay in their own homes and retain their independence but could benefit from some assistance completing daily, weekly, monthly chores.
KADAP do an incredible job in our community – to see for yourself, check them out here: www.kawerau.org.nz/KADAP.

Staying true to one of our values, a few of the management team covered on the frontline for the day so we could “paddle as one” whilst the team were out helping with firewood. Over the course of the shift they came up with a number of fresh ideas which have already contributed to change in a number of areas to make things easier for our team going forward.

An enormous thank-you must go to many for making it happen! Firstly to those who donated the use of trucks/trailers and to KADAP for their involvement on the day. Also to Les Cooke for his extremely kind donation of kindling bags delivered to site, all packaged up and ready to rock!

A massive shout out also to the members of our team who got out there and did it – not to mention the rest of the team for playing their part in making it possible! We had some awesome acts of kindness throughout the day from many who volunteered their time to help.

We’re all looking forward to doing it all over again with another worthy cause in a couple of months as we continue our quest to give more to our people and communities.
