He Tangata – It is people: Growing local leaders one step at a time

At Sequal, we’re passionate about people. People are at the heart of everything we do. We believe we have a role to play in serving our communities and one way we can do that is through creating jobs that propel people towards their purpose.

Experienced Performance Coach Aaron Walsh knows about helping people achieve their full potential with roles working with the Chiefs in Super Rugby as well as a number of international clubs and national sporting teams. He is also currently coaching corporate leadership teams in creating and maintaining high performance working environments including Walmart and Thrifty Car Rentals.

In sport, he focusses on the mental side of performance – taking what players can achieve in training and helping them to replicate those abilities in high pressure situations during games. He also works with individuals to help lay the foundations of vision, purpose, and standards so they understand where they are headed, why they’re doing what they’re doing and sorting a plan of how to get there.

Sequal are committed to growing future leaders from our community and to do this we are investing today to ensure our people have the skills they need to step up in the future. Walshy has been working to develop and deliver this Local Leadership Programme to equip our team with the leadership skills they need to lead others.

The programme starts with the individual (and the idea that you can’t help others until you help yourself) and delves into understanding the factors that will assist in operating at peak performance. Helping our future leaders understand and motivate their people and drive change within teams is also a key part. The programme rounds up with valuable tools to make an impact on organisational culture – something hugely important to the success of any organisation.

We have a number of groups at various stages of the programme and are excited to watch them grow both in confidence and ability. Shout out to Walshy for making time in his busy schedule to help create and facilitate a programme that we are so passionate about – your experience and wealth of knowledge in team environments is sure to make a difference for the up-and-coming leaders in our community.
