Helping young people achieve their dreams is a big part of our ‘why’ but it’s also a great motivator for getting us out of bed in the morning. We believe we, as a business, have a role to play in encouraging and supporting youth to identify and seize opportunities presented to them in order to contribute our small piece of the puzzle towards giving more to the future.
An admirable organisation doing great things to support young people in our communities is Blue Light. Blue Light have branches throughout the country and organise a number of supervised cultural, social, sporting and educational activities for young people in an alcohol, drug and violence-free environment. They aim to reduce the incidence of young people becoming offenders or victims of crime and encourage better relations among the police, young people, parents and the community – put plainly, just real good people caring for the welfare of our youth.
Over the last few years, we’ve partnered with the Kawerau branch and gone along to help on their epic annual excursion to the Whakapapa Ski Field – taking a group of young people to the snow to test their ski and snow tobogganing skills and most of all, to enjoy a fun day out. This year was no exception and we were so privileged to be a part of yet another well-planned and eventful day. The fun definitely wasn’t reserved for the kids and we’re already looking forward to next year!
What a phenomenal job Blue Light do throughout the country in this space to help support young people in achieving their dreams. We are particularly grateful for the local branch doing such great things on our back doorstep – if it weren’t for them, these new experiences wouldn’t be possible for our tamariki. We believe that we can all do our bit to give more to the future and Blue Light are certainly going above and beyond!
